Why GBP punches above its weight for AI

Ask ChatGPT 'best pizza in Brooklyn' and the answer pulls from Google's data layer underneath. Whoever has the cleanest GBP wins those mentions by default.

It's also one of the few places where the data is explicitly structured, verified, and updated by you. Assistants love sources they can trust.

The 30-minute setup that fixes 90% of issues

  1. 01Claim and verify your profile at business.google.com.
  2. 02Fill in every field. Name (exact match to your storefront signage), address, phone, website, hours, attributes.
  3. 03Pick the most specific primary category. 'Italian restaurant' beats 'restaurant.' Add secondary categories that genuinely fit.
  4. 04Upload at least 20 photos: storefront, interior, products, team. Real photos beat stock every time.
  5. 05Add a services or products list with prices where possible.
  6. 06Write a 750-character description in plain language. No keyword stuffing.

I don't have a physical address. Can I still use GBP?

Service-area businesses can. Hide your address and define service zones instead. The rest of the setup is identical.

Does GBP affect AI assistants outside of local queries?
